Job Summary:

The Real Estate Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate and timely financial records for a portfolio of real estate properties. This role involves managing accounts payable and receivable, preparing financial statements, analyzing property performance, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Reporting:
    1. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements) for individual properties and the overall portfolio.
    1. Analyze property income and expenses, identifying trends and variances.
    1. Prepare and present financial reports to management and stakeholders.
  • Accounts Payable and Receivable:
    1. Process and reconcile accounts payable, ensuring timely payments to vendors and contractors.
    1. Manage accounts receivable, including monitoring tenant payments and following up on delinquent accounts.
    1. Process and reconcile bank statements.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting:
    1. Assist in the preparation of annual budgets for real estate properties.
    1. Monitor actual performance against budget and identify variances.
    1. Prepare financial forecasts and projections.
  • Compliance and Auditing:
    1. Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards (e.g., GAAP) and regulations.
    1. Assist with internal and external audits.
  • Other Duties:
    1. Reconcile intercompany accounts.
    1. Support property managers with financial matters.
    1. Stay up-to-date with industry trends and changes in regulations.
    1. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
  • 2-3 years of experience in accounting, preferably in real estate or property management.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
  • Proficiency in Yardi a plas
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
